What's going on at the farm?

WE NEED BOXES!!! PLEASE REMEMBER TO RETURN YOUR BOXES, THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE THREE OF THEM IN YOUR GARAGE, TIME TO DUST THEM OFF!!! We have been supplementing with paper bags as the number of wax boxes we have has been dwindling dramatically. I am trying to hold off until next year to buy any, as I want to drive out to pick them up (couple hours drive) rather than have them delivered (very expensive shipping) and don't want to take the time away from the farm now to do so. That is a much better winter project.

Produce info...

Isn't tomato season just great?! I love it. I can't keep remarking on how proud of the tomatoes I am this year. They are so big, and juicy and perfect! If only the agriculture Gods would grace me with this nice a crop every year.....but then where would the mystery and challenge of it all go. As I mentioned, the peppers have seen way better days though, and I am not sure we are going to make it to colored bells this year, I am very sorry to have to admit this. It is part due to the Phytopthera problem we had this spring in the greenhouse, part due to some issues I am still trying to figure out. We have tons of onions, leeks, tomatoes, eggplant, cantaloupe, potatoes, winter squash soon, and more beans and cukes and summer squash to come. Much to look forward to.

I almost forgot to mention, very important, don't hold onto your cantaloupe for too long. The Burpees Hybird does not hold for long at all, and is best when eaten fresh. Put it in your refrigerator when you receive it to help with its shelf life. Also, let me know what you think about it. Cantaloupes are such a tricky thing because they can take on a life of their own, deciding to taste on way then another. Lets cross our fingers these are all yummy!

That is all folks. Once again, let me know if you have any questions, thoughts or concerns. I love to hear from you and although it takes me a bit to reply sometimes, I promise you, I always do. Elise.

Recipe of the Week

Eggplant sauteed with garlic

You do not have to peel or salt Japanese eggplant, that is the beauty of it (not to mention it is beautiful in its long and slender shape and color). Just cut into rounds and then more if desired for bite size pieces. In a skillet, heat the oil, add the garlic and eggplant, and saute over medium heat about ten minutes, until almost soft. Add parsley, pepper, and salt to taste and continue cooking another 3-4 minutes. Sprinkle with lemon if desired.
