WhatÕs
Going On?
Hey folks!
This cooler weather is a nice break for August. I am still considering taking a one
week vacation sometime in the next few weeks, which would mean a week off from
the shares. I am not sure though,
I feel as though I will let the crops dictate. I will definitely let you all
know with at the very least a weeks notice if I do. The pepper cooking class is on for Saturday the 26th
at 10am. I have some folks
interested but still have room for more so send me an email if you would like
to participate. We are going to be
putting fall transplants into the ground tomorrow. Broccoli, kale, collards, cabbage and chard to name a
few. We have got the crucial
irrigation set up and ready to go as it is so dry we have dusty soil up
here. I also have some overhead
irrigation set up to water in some seeds that will be going in the ground
soon. We will try some lettuce
mix, radishes, turnips, beets, carrots and spinach. Of course we wonÕt be harvesting any of this for a good
month or more so be patient! This
is week 17 of the season which means we have 8 more weeks left of
deliveries.
Produce
Info:
This
year I grew two different kinds of potatoes, one is called Rosa Gold and has a
lighter red skin and yellow flesh while the other is called Reddale and has a
darker red skin and white flesh. I
have heard from one member that the Rosa Gold is a very tasty potato, have any
of you noticed a difference in flavor or variety? Any thoughts?
Go ahead an treat the leeks just like onions, although I do find them
tasty raw as they can be a bit milder.
Try potato leek soup in this cloudy August weather.
What
To Look Forward To....
Well
I already told you about the fall crops that should see us through the last
four weeks of the shares. For the
next four, we will see a good bit more of the same, some peppers, eggplant,
tomatoes, basil, leeks, garlic, winter squash, potatoes, cantaloupe,
watermelon, cucumbers. The summer
goodies. Once again, let me know
if you have any thoughts or feedback, I do really love to hear from you.
Thanks! Elise.
